Future Leaders: Mantshadi Khoadi

On Saturday 15 October Future Leaders, a 13-episode series which documents the lives of six South African youths tackling issues of alcohol abuse and other related social problems, were filming Mantshadi Khoadi’s story, a young girl from Oranjeville.

The six teenagers, who’s journey are featured on Future Leaders, are to becoming positive role models and agents of positive change within their respective communities and amongst their peers.

Mantshadi is a 17 year old grade 11 learner from Orangeville and attends an agricultural school. She is passionate about helping the less fortunate and enjoys agriculture and farming as well as singing in the choir.

With the assistance of the local municipality, Mantshadi’s dream to start a Food Forest (community garden) for her community was realised this past weekend.  The local municipality allocated four hectares of land on which Mantshadi’s community garden was set up. This Future Leader had the opportunity to handover the garden to her community this past weekend as part her project big reveal. Mantshadi’s community garden will see needy families and teenagers grow their own vegetables to consume as well as to sell for income generation. Mantshadi also hopes to set up a farmers market where locals can purchase fresh food and vegetables. She hopes to make this a sustainable project that can take place seasonally within her community.”
