Apart from it being a cloudy and cold day in Bloemfontein, Free State Care in Action’s World Play Day took place on Saturday 7 May 2016 and was a resounding success.

More than 200 children from various schools and charities in Bloemfontein came together to celebrate World Play Day. JF Drummie Klub, Dance Domination Marilize Griffiths Disco Small Group Velocity and Ons Kinderhuis’s dance groups opened the festive day.

It being the second annual World Play Day, Free State Care in Action tried to make the day bigger and better than the 2015’s event. There were a variety of sponsors on board including Z PR Events / Promotions / Design, PCB Photo, St Michaels School, SpecSavers, SuperSport Let’s Play, Smec, CNA, Vrystaat Nasorgsentrum, The Department of Social Work UFS, Bargain Books Preller, St John’s Ambulance and The Core Group.

The purpose of World Play Day is to create awareness amongst parents, teachers and children the value of play in the physical and mental development of children. The focus group for the children participating is between the ages of 6 to 18 years.

Says Corlia Botha from Free State Care in Action: ” In terms of participation for the children, it is not so much a competition, but rather to expose as many children as possible to various sporting activities such as five a side football, mini hockey and monkeynastix. The goal of the day is a great day of fun without any pressure being put on the children”.
