Herewith the original media release:

An exciting programme aimed at uplifting small, micro and medium enterprises (SMMEs), particularly those interested in producing products from manufacturing through to the final product, has officially been launched by the Free State Development Corporation (FDC).
The programme was officially launched with the signing of the SMME incubator programme cooperation agreement between the FDC and the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) of India. The SMME incubator programme was officially launched last week.
The cooperation is a result of the visit by a Free State provincial government delegation to India to study closely how the NSIC helps with the development of SMMEs in India.
Following this visit, the FDC approved the establishment of an incubator programme to enhance the sustainability of SMMEs in the Free State.
In terms of the agreement, the NSIC will assist the FDC with SMME development in the areas of capacity building, policy and institutional framework, entrepreneurship and business development services.
Ravindra Nath, NSIC’s chief general manager for finance based in India, said Free State entrepreneurs who want to go into the manufacturing sector will be assisted in terms of marketing, training and accessing government tenders.

“One of the biggest problems that entrepreneurs encounter is funding for their business and to this end we are finalising an agreement between Absa and the NSIC to address this,” Nath said.
According to Malefane Mapena, FDC chief executive officer, the manufacturing sector would be a welcome break from the usual funding requests.
“We regularly get funding requests for public phone containers and this would be a welcome break from that. We are excited about this programme,” he said.

Nath mentioned that according to their research, low cost technologies such as toilet roll making machines will work best as far as the Free State is concerned, especially because these are easy to use.
Although Mapena would not be drawn on mentioning some of the technologies that they had identified he did mention however that an announcement would be made around the end of September.
