Prizes awarded to Free State Entrepreneurs

The Free State enterPRIZE Job Creation Challenge Banquet and awards ceremony was held on Thursday 19 June where 71 Free State entrepreneurs received various prizes to the value of R7.5 million. This competition, which has also been coined as the most exciting business competition in the Free State, has been actively searching for entrepreneurs since its launch on 18 March this year. Seven-hundred-and-sixty-nine (769) entries were received from all five districts across the Free State Province. Independent judges from twelve (12) judging panels selected the short listed candidates who presented their business plans on 3 June 2014.
The Free State SME Development Initiative conceptualized the Free State enterPRIZE Job Creation Challenge in order to assist Provincial Government in meeting its priorities towards job creation and SME development. This initiative is funded by the Flanders International Corporation Agency (FICA) and executed by the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Free State Department for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DETEA).
In addition to the prizes money received, the 71 entrepreneurs will also receive technical support. The technical support will be demand led and includes mentorship, training, incubation and business development services.
Winners hailed from Bethlehem, Bloemfontein, Botshabelo, Ficksburg, Harrismith, Kroonstad, Parys, Philopolis, QwaQwa, Sasolburg, Thaba’Nchu, Welkom and Wepener.
