On Monday 31 July 2017, South African Breweries Central Region in partnership with Rise Against Hunger, donated 150 food parcels to needy students at the Motheo TVET College.

This initiative, which formed part of SAB’s Mandela Day Month, is one of many projects where the company gives back to the community.

The South African Surveys of Student Engagement (SASSE) Annual Report 2016 indicated that 77% of first-generation students ran out of food without being able to afford food for the rest of the month. These are often students with strong academic records, but without adequate funding for regular meals.

Kgosi Mogotsi, SAB Central Region Manager, said: “At South African Breweries we have a variety of community development initiatives with the focus of creating a better world. We focus on a world with growth, a cleaner environment and a healthier world for all. One of our projects is to alleviate hunger at different entities, like old age homes, youth centres and schools.

He also motivated the students by telling them that nothing was a substitute for hard work. Suffering forms part of one’s success. The question is do you suffer now, and have a successful future, or have fun now and suffer for the rest of your life.

Mrs MDM Phutsisi, principal of Motheo TVET College went on to thank SAB for their generous contribution.
