I went to see Private Presley by Mzansi Ballet twice last week and honestly, I could easily go again. It’s one of those productions that just hits differently. Full of heart, nostalgia and incredible talent.

The show, co-directed and choreographed by Sean Bovim alongside Dirk Badenhorst, director of Mzansi Ballet is a stunning reimagining of Elvis Presley’s life told through dance, live music and emotion. You can really see Badenhorst’s vision in how everything connects — the way the music blends with the choreography, the way the dancers and singers move together and how the story unfolds without ever losing its rhythm. It’s powerful, emotional and beautifully South African, while still having this international flair thanks to the diverse cast of dancers from around the world.

Logan W James completely owned the stage. His vocals are amazing. Strong, soulful and full of emotion, but what really stood out for me was his presence. He doesn’t just sing; he tells the story. You believe every word, every note, every look.

And Patience Mahema… wow. That voice! So rich and warm, filled with feeling.

The dancers were fantastic. Every piece of choreography had purpose and feeling. From the high-energy numbers to the more intimate moments, you could feel how deeply the cast was connected to the story they were telling.

If you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favour and go. And maybe, like me, you’ll find yourself going back for a second round.
