Johannesburg, October 7 – Seven months since the last boxing tournament in South Africa, SuperSport will broadcast the return of the sport locally with the “Four at War” final at Emperors Palace on Saturday.
The event will be broadcast on SuperSport Action (DStv ch 210), SuperSport Grandstand (DStv ch 201) and SuperSport Variety 3 (DStv ch 208) from 6.30pm.
In keeping with its quest for innovation, SuperSport will make use of a video referee in the form of Hall of Fame official Stan Christodoulou, who will rule on any critical moments the in-ring referee may miss.
Christodoulou will be equipped with a ringside TV monitor and a communication link to SuperSport’s outside broadcast unit, ensuring a smooth process designed to help officials and to enhance the viewing experience.
In the headline bout for the final of the “Four at War” junior-middleweight tournament, Brandon Thysse fights unbeaten Boyd Allen over 10 rounds. Allen had his number in their first fight, last May, winning a split decision, so will start favourite on Saturday.
The supporting bout has Roarke Knapp, sensationally stopped by Thysse last time out, in a battle for third place against promising Tristan Truter.
Determined to remind people of his emerging class, Jabulani Makhense boxes Eric Kapia of the DRC, who has had three times as many pro outings and represents a solid test.
Cruiserweight Keaton Gomes, meanwhile, goes over old ground against crafty Lebogang Mashitoa, who upset him last September. It’s a must-win for Gomes, who needs to match the hype.
In the opening bout (6.30pm) super-middleweights Covin Ray and Karabo Mokupi meet over six rounds. |
