SuperSport Rugby Challenge commentator search down to 12

Johannesburg, April 8 – The World of Champions’ search for six new rugby commentators is down to 12.

The top 12 were selected on Saturday evening from a group of 44 who had all progressed to the final auditions in Sandton City after initially making the cut from the regional auditions which were held in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg earlier in the week.

Making up the top 12 is;

isiXhosa: Luthabo Kamai (Cape Town), Sebenzile Tyetyana (Port Elizabeth), Tyhila Phahlane and Masomelele Jucwa (both from Johannesburg).

Afrikaans: Johan Thormahlen and Stephen Nel (Johannesburg), John Nelson (Port Elizabeth) and Marco Botha (Cape Town).

English: Paul Stubbs (Cape Town), Chris Fletcher, Anton Taylor and Matthew Pugin (all from Johannesburg).

The top 12 will now go into a two-week commentator’s ‘boot-camp’ which is made up of training and commentating stints during the Easter weekend festivals. They’ll all get an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the SuperSport Rugby Challenge, taking turns commentating on all round-robin matches of the inaugural tournament.

The top 6, (two isiXhosa, two Afrikaans and two English), which will be the ultimate winners, will be announced at the start of the knockout stage of the tournament.
